Chapter 2: New Beginings

Anna began her third day in her new hometown starting a new routine. She decided she would exercise early to prepare for her new career, so she jogs from her “bed” either at the stadium or at the Azalea Acres Community Garden to the gym, where she showers and uses the facilities.

Anna received a call from the newspaper boy saying that her lot was overflowing with old papers, so she rushes over to clean up her lot. After cleaning up, Anna has a quick breakfast and then it’s off to meet the neighbors. Anna wants to have many new friends in her new hometown, and getting out and meeting people may help her find the love of her life.

Her first excursion locates a young man named Matthew Jennings, who she finds extremely cute and he seems perfect, a neat guy with a sense of humor, but the next day she goes to visit him at his home (where he lives with another young male) she finds out that he is dating someone. Although her dreams of a wonderful life with this sweet handsome guy are crushed, Anna chooses to continue a friendship with him. It’s worth having someone you can talk to sometimes, right?

The next day she visits a guy from work and finds out that he is rich and married. Although Anna is attracted to some suitors, she has decided she would rather not match up with a rich man. She believes that they have a different view on life than she does and it would be easier to introduce a man in the same financial class she is in, either dating a poor or lower middle class guy, into her impoverished lifestyle. No rich guys.

After visiting with her coworker, Anna heads to work, where she is given a raise for reading a book her boss suggested would help her out. She is also promoted to Snack Hawker, which means she now dredges through the bleachers during games selling drinks and snacks to fans. Well, at least yelling, “Hot dogs! Get your hot dogs!” is an improvement on being a go-for.

She is exhausted after a hard days work and wonders into a neighbors home where she briefly chats with the neighbor. The elder woman is nice enough to allow Anna to use her bathtub and offers her a bed before she leaves for the night, but she doesn't tell her husband about their new visitor and Anna is kicked back out on the streets.

That night she sleeps at the stadium and wakes up bright and early on the next day, which is her day off. Anna visits the juice bar where she meets a nice young man named Lee Chung. After chatting for quite a while, Anna asks Lee if he’s single. He is. He is unemployed and seems like a nice guy.

The next day, Anna is very excited about meeting Lee again and today she decides to profess her love for him. It seems fast, but she seems to have fallen in love overnight. Lee agrees and they decided to go on and get married in a private ceremony. Lee, it turns out, also had a shady past and has a very strained relationship with his own father and so he chooses to take her last name.

The new family member brings in a few more funds and Anna is able to build a small house for the two of them on her lot. Anna now has a bed, a toilet, and a shower within a tiny shack with cheap floors and wallpaper, but it's home!!
